Run a staging site?

Hi,
it's my first time with this extension and I am interested in how it can help run multiple Joomla installations---does this mean multiple websites under the same database? I have a client with a joomla site (with virtuemart) which he wants to create a 'staging' site for---basically have a mirror site to run consistently for new content (and products) to preview them before taking it live to the public site; once approved by the bosses, he wants to be able to easily update the content to the live site. I had found this extension hoping that it can make the process easier than to just copy and upload CSV files & image folders from the mirror site. Any pointers would be appreciated thanks!

Hi Kevin,

Yes, you can install two instance of Joomla using the same database.

With Joomla, this makes it easier to share content between the sites.

You may need to add a prefix to the current Joomla installation, if there isn't one.

Then, install a new instance of Joomla using the same database but with a different table prefix.

The should work side by side no problem.

Thanks for getting back. I'm from a design bg so some jargons throw me a bit; for example, what do you mean by "instance'? Would this component allow me to leave the live site as it is until the time I update it with the 'staging' site's DB? and how would this be done basically? (ie. can a script be used to update automatically across? thanks
